Time to take a drive down memory lane to 1985 for one of Sammy Hagar's biggest hits.

Happy Birthday to Rhodes Short

Happy Birthday to comedian Rhodes Short who celebrated his 49th birthday recently.
We celebrated by having a roast of his ass at the Cherry Bomb Hookah Lounge
in Redondo Beach.

The gang at Cherry Bomb Hookah lounge.

Rhodes celebrated by doing his same comedy act that he has been doing for 10 years, including his "I'm from Detroit" jokes and Vin Scully impersonations. He closed the set by doing a special extended version of his song "I'm a middle aged white boy" which you know was also written 10 years ago because he is way past middle age!    Happy Birthday Rhodes!

California's water drought - things you can do to help the environment

California is dealing with a major drought right now. It hasn't rained in like 3 years. (which is good for me because the window wipers on my car don't work) But its bad for the farmers who now have to use up the ground water to water their crops so people can eat a fuck ton of almonds.

So I figured I'd write a a semi-serious list of things you can do to help the environment and the human race. Most of these are common knowledge, but its a friendly reminder for what you can do to better humanity!

#1 - Dont have any kids, or if you do, just have 1 or 2.
Our population is out of control. Just chill out. I would write more details about how to not sperm in the opposite sex, but I'm pretty sure my Mom reads this blog.

#2 - Dont use the "self check out" at the Grocery store.
They may be more convenient, but the more people use them, the less the "Human" employees are needed. Which will eventually cause people to lose their jobs, which makes more lazy fuckers on welfare. Corporations love it when you do all the work, so they can pay less people. So take the extra 2 minutes and say hello to the half drunk, wig wearing employee asking you to enter in your "Savings Club" number.  Plus they are always pretty cool about giving you a roll of quarters for doing laundry.

#3 - Don't take showers on Sundays.
Sometimes I do this. Unless I have a show. But its pretty common for the people of Santa Monica to see me walking around dirty in my pajamas at 4pm on a Sunday. It saves water .. and hairspray.  And nobody seems to notice at the IHOP.

#4 - Pick up litter
For most people this is a no-brainer. Dont Litter. But most of the Mexicans near my work haven't figured out that you cant just have a picnic lunch on the sidewalk and leave all the wrappers when your done. I feel like I have to walk down the sidewalk with a bus tub just to clean up after them. This isn't Mexico City people, its L.A.  We don't litter, we pollute the earth with bad television.

#5 - Ride your bike
If you got the time, ride your bike. Just make sure you get a bike lock, because half the time its like "The Purge" out there on the streets and the low lifes would love to get their hands on a pretty new beach cruiser.

#6 - Ignore "Street Art" aka Graffiti
I'm not sure what part of the population is supporting the "tagging" of street signs and alleyways, but its pretty ridiculous. Its usually some sort of weird word that makes no sense written on a slab of cement, and then the business owner paints over it, and then some idiot sprays it on there again. If your gonna vandalize something, stick to toilet seats.... at your own house. If you think advertisements before Youtube videos are annoying, this "street art" is even worse.

#7 - Support local business's, shows, play's, and community events.
If your friend opens a cupcake shop, go buy some cupcakes. If your friend is in a play, go see the play. If your friend does stand up comedy, go see the show!  Supporting people and small business's is better for everyone. Its easy to stay in the house watching Netflix all day or writing shitty posts for the 30 people in Belgium who go to your blog. (no offense guys). Its a pain in the ass getting off the couch, but at the end of the day most people say "I'm glad I went out tonight, it wasn't that bad." And if your single, you can see what the other people actually look like instead of their online photos.

"The Resistance" with Derek Mears

Sunday night we went out to see ComedySportz in L.A. to see Derek Mears and the Improv/Action Movie show "The Resistance".  These guys were funny as hell, improvising a full length action movie from a few audience suggestions. As a comedy fan, and Friday the 13th fan, I was in heaven. (Derek plays "Jason" in the 2009 'Friday the 13th"as well as roles is other films like 'Pirates of the Caribbean" and 'Predators."

They perform every Sunday at 9pm and these guys are definitely worth seeing.  It was hilarious.  Check out the links below for more info on 'The Resistance!"

*ComedySportz L.A. is at 733 Seward Street in Hollywood.

Here is "The Resistance" in full form, after a kick ass performance.
After the show we all went down to the local "Cat & the Fiddle" bar/restaurant for some after hours hanging.  I was stoked to see that on Sunday's they were featuring "Live Jizz" for no cover charge!

No cover charge for Live Jizz?  Whats the catch?
At the Cat & The Fiddle.

Here's another picture of Derek in his home.

Thank You Bulldog Hookah Lounge in Huntington Beach!

"The Cults" on the Santa Monica Pier - July 10th 2014

Myspace and KCRW put on summer concerts at the Santa Monica pier each year. To kick it off they presented the band "The Cults".  So we went and checked it out.

The show took place on the Santa Monica Pier.
People flock to these summer concerts, mainly because they are free and It gives the hippies another excuse to get stoned!
People fill up the beach to listen to the concert and "relax"
I stay up top in my Republican tower looking down on them.
Its like "Dawn of the Dead" down there!

The only song I know from "The Cults" is called "You Know What I Mean". (Below)
But it does rule. So I was looking forward to seeing it.

The Cults took the stage around 8:30.

We left the concert about 3/4's of the way through. But my friend Will kept wanting to go back. I took the picture below of him begging to stay. His parents wouldn't let him listen to anything but classical music growing up, so he is a little behind on whats "hip".  He is currently going through his "N.W.A. and "Public Enemy" phase.

"Please can we stay?" My bedtime isn't until 9pm!"
Leaving the Pier area is a nightmare, its jammed packed with lunatics. Families, Tourists, people with Parrots and Snakes on their shoulders its like "The Purge" but with more fatalities!

KISS / Def Leppard Concert at the L.A. Forum

I thought I knew what Rock N Roll was and then KISS came along and kicked me square in the nuts. I went to this concert mainly to see Def Leppard and to watch KISS as an afterthought. "Hysteria" was the first tape I ever bought and it was packed with killer tunes. Def Leppard did a great show singing all of their hits, but the energy that KISS brought to the stage was something that only has been rivaled by a Guns N Roses concert.  We had a blast.

The site of the concert, the newly remodeled L.A. Forum.

The place was packed with all ages, mostly old dudes!
The KISS fans were out in full force.
Later that night, these two probably banged in full makeup!
Not sure if he was looking for the Mens or Women's bathroom.

Def Leppard doing "Hysteria"
Holy Shit!  It's KISS, coming to kick some ass!

The only thing that sucks is that they didn't sing my favorite KISS song "Crazy Nights".

Paul Stanly is 62 years old and still shakin his ass like its 1979.

Only 40 bucks for a t-shirt, I'll take 2!
"Rock N Roll All Night" was the closer.  Shocker!

Best Birthday ever- Friday the 13th part 4 - Official Mask!

Sarah got me an authentic "Friday the 13th Part 4" mask for my birthday.  This thing is bad ass and is an exact re-creation of what was used in the film.  I'll definitely be walking around town carrying it like a weirdo using it as a conversation starter.

Its part of the Project 82 series by Crash Cunningham.

Check out Crash's website

Screen shot from the film.

The Part 4 mask on display next to a hinge from the Barn in part 3
which is resting on a brick from the chimney in part 3 as well.

Birthday at the Rainbow Room!

Its July 7th!  Which means its time for another birthday party at the World Famous Rainbow Room on the Sunset Strip.  We took over the "November Rain" tables in the back and had a blast. Will have a ton of photos up soon!
