Mo Mandel - "After Dark with Julian Clark" - December 2016

Comedian Mo Mandel dropped by the After Dark show this December for an interview.  Below is a photo of Mo, Director Graham Rich and myself after the show. I still had my "Hanks Hunks" outfit on, but my mustache fell off, so I just look like Bret Michaels.

The Speak Easy - new recurring comedy show

I'll be running a new comedy show at the Speak Easy bar in Santa Monica. We will be doing shows every other Monday starting on 11/28.   Its a free show that starts at 9pm.

The Speak Easy is at 1326 Pico Blvd in Santa Monica.

We will have shows on the following Monday nights at 9pm.  Come on out!

Halloween movie Filming locations

Saturday, October 30th, 2016.

I love going to filming locations for movies, especially horror films. And since it was October 30th,  and I had a free day, I dragged the wife up to Pasadena to go see where they filmed HALLOWEEN.  Fun Fact! She will go anywhere as long as I promise her lunch at a new restaurant.

I had already been to the Myers house a few times, and of course the Hardware store which is nearby, but I had never gone to the Strode house or the famous hedge.

So I had some catching up to do.

The most famous Halloween location is the Myers house. Located at 1000 Mission Street in South Pasadena, its now a chiropractic clinic.  When we got there it was great because other fans had the same idea. People were taking pictures and there was a guy dressed up as Michael on the porch. See wife, I'm not the only one who likes doing this!

The owners of the Chiropractic clinic have a sign on the door welcoming fans, but asking if they could stay off the porch. That sign was promptly ignored!

Another great location is the famous hedge that Michael watched Laurie and Annie from. Its one of the more eerie parts of the film, but its not as eerie when I recreate it with the lady in back of me walking her dog.  (see below)

The hedge is on Montrose Avenue, and is also the same street that Lynda's and Annie's house is on.

Fun Fact: It was also the house used in the opening credits of "Mama's Family"
a show that was on right after "Charles in Charge"
They owned the "after school" time slot!

The owners of the house have a welcome letter on their porch that says
"Yes, this is Laurie Strode's house from the movie Halloween, take some pictures, have fun!"
I suppose it beats having dirty fat guys in shorts and their goth looking girlfriends knocking on the door 15 times a day.... unless your into that sort of thing.

Next we went to the school where kids told little Tommy Doyle that the Boogeyman was coming.

but for this they made an exception.

Luckily school was not in session or this photo would be full
of kids on their iPhones.

Below is the hardware store where Michael got his mask from, 

now its an Indian restaurant with average Yelp reviews. 

If you listen closely you can hear Donald Pleasance yelling his Indian Food order.

I also have a ton of photos of the houses in Hollywood where Laurie and Annie were babysitting at the end of the movie, but I'm too lazy to dig them up, scan them, post them and write snarky comments. So you will just have to trust me and know that I spend a lot of time "hanging out" on Orange Grove avenue daydreaming about a killer that is make believe. 

Halloween III - yeah it still sucks

I'm noticing these days a lot of people online are expressing their love for the movie Halloween III. I'm seeing new reviews, references to "Silver Shamrock" and fun facts about the film splattered all over. They say its a guilty pleasure, a classic in its own right. And that the only reason it doesn't get any respect is because its the only movie in the Halloween series without Michael Meyers.

But this is a gentle reminder that Halloween III still sucks. I feel the only reason that people have any love at all for this movie is that its the only film in the Halloween series that hasn't been watched a thousand times. Therefore it hasn't been, picked apart, re-watched, critiqued, enjoyed, talked about and shared to death. So in a way its still fresh.

 I went to a midnight screening of the original Halloween last week, and as much as I love that movie, it really doesn't hold up. Maybe because I've seen it so many times or because I'm older. But its still better than the piece of shit that is Halloween III.

For me, Halloween III sat unwatched in my collection until just last month.  All this commotion had finally prompted me to give it a watch. You see I had owned the film, but had never watched it. I only bought it to have a complete Halloween collection.

No Meyers, No interest.

Besides being the 3rd film in the series, I think its called Halloween III because it took me 3 nights to finish watching it. I can sit through some shit, but this one was extra rough. It had its moments, but my favorite was the end credits. I don't even have the enthusiasm to break down the movie and complain about certain parts. I guess writing this half assed blog post will have to do!

I dont hate Halloween III, but lets stop pretending its good.

If you ever need to fall asleep after drinking 5 Red Bulls,
try watching Halloween III!

Friday the 13th part 5 filming locations - PINEHURST & THE DINER

There's no better way to spend a Saturday than visiting Friday the 13th filming locations. (my wife would disagree)  Today we visited the famous Pinehurst Youth Development Center from "A New Beginning".  On the way home we also swung by the Diner where Billy and Lana met their demise.

These locations are way out in the middle of fucking nowhere. It was about a 50 minute drive from Los Angeles. When we got to Pinehurst (its not a halfway house in real life, its an Avocado farm)  we were greeted by high fences and a closed gate.  I had to park and stand on my car just to get a "halfway" decent picture of the "halfway" house.  But seeing that barn did get me excited, even if Part 5 sucks ass.

I got as close as I could to get the following pics from the road.

Pinehurst house.

No fans allowed!

There's too many fucking trees on this property.

We went around the side to try to get some closer pictures of the barn. We basically had to crawl through the avocado farm next door and get as close as possible. No trespassing signs are everywhere, but if I drove 50 miles for this I'll just pretend I can't read.

 This shot below may not look too familiar in the movie unless you have a keen eye.

When Tommy Jarvis first arrives at Pinehurst in the Unger Mental Institute van you can see him driving by this car port in the background, A yellow truck is in the place where the blue car is in now. Another fun fact is that if Part 5 is your favorite film you should be committed to the Unger Mental Institute as well because you're nuts. 

The Barn .... obviously.

Now its time to swing by the ol Diner where Billy picked up Lana.

It's time to party!

The Diner is way off the beaten path and about 16 miles south of Pinehurst. We rolled up around 8pm and they were already closed. Not sure if its a seasonal place, or they just knew we were coming.

 Closed.
Too bad for them, I would have spent at least 3 bucks there.

The "Rock Store" is not shown in the movie, but Lana's hooters were.

Is that Crazy Ralph? Nope, Crazy Wife!

I have a few more photos to post but I'm too lazy to do it now. Besides its 12:30am on a Saturday night and I have important things to do. I may just go out on the town .. in my pajamas.
